Time goes by… Our babies have learned so many things, that their two or three years of life look like a decade to us! So far, each challenge has been a great learning experience – especially when we talk about saying goodbye to diapers . The day has happened and his little longer enjoys greater autonomy after that. You learned together to take it a step further, respecting all the limits and characteristics of each other, and now the time has come for the last step: the night shift !
Is it time for your little one to leave diapers while sleeping?
Some families prefer to do the total defrost at once, but most start at daytime and when they get it, then they choose to take the diaper off at night too, completing the process.
It is very important to remember that defrosting is not a matter of age, but of maturity, with each child having their own time. It takes patience and respect for the pace of each one so that this is not an exhausting process for anyone. But, how to know if it is the time to start the night defrost? Just like during the day, you need to be aware of some signs that your little one is ready to leave the diapers while sleeping:
– Waking up, most days, with a dry diaper.
– Ask to go to the bathroom during the day, having little or no escape (pee or poop on the floor, or on clothes).
– Have already learned to name poop and pee.
– Demonstrate discomfort in using the diaper, even if it is just for sleeping.
Dad and mom, are you ready too?
Before that, it is important that you are also prepared to conduct the process smoothly. Here are some tips:
– Talk a lot with your little one. Explain to him that he will now sleep in his underwear or underwear, and that if he wakes up, he will be able to call him at any time to go to the bathroom. Talk about how cool it will be to remove the diaper and how he / she is growing and gaining independence with it, as well as how proud you are that this moment has arrived!
– Avoid giving your child fluids before bed, about 2 hours before.
– Before going to sleep, take her to the bathroom to pee and / or poop, and say that this is important for you to sleep and wake up dry.
– Sometimes it is important to wake the child up at dawn, at least once, so that he / she goes to the bathroom.
– To reduce stress and work, purchase an absorbent crib protector (or other waterproof material) and place it under the sheet. So, in case of bed wetting , your little one will not be as wet and the mattress will be safe.
– Always have personal clothes and extra bedding in case of accidents.
– Every morning, many hugs and kisses! Celebrate and praise the achievement!
– When there are night escapes and the bed is wet, do not criticize or fight. Tell them that there is no problem with that and that it is normal! The next night, they’ll try again.
– Always be aligned with the school. Often, at school, children have already left their diapers at sleep time.
Don’t be afraid to try again
If the escapes are many, more than the dry nights, or if the process is being very exhausting for you and / or your little one, it is worth rethinking if it is really time to do the nighttime defrost. In such cases, stop, evaluate and rethink. If you put the diaper back on, do it without fanfare, talking to your little one, saying that this is not a bad thing and that they will soon try again.
Time to celebrate!
Taking the diaper aside, it’s time to celebrate! How about combining a walk in a park, making a very tasty program to celebrate !? After all, saying goodbye to diapers once and for all involves a lot of learning and development!
